I have over 24 years of experience as a governmental affairs consultant, providing legislative analysis and monitoring, direct lobbying, strategic planning, coalition building, and advocacy training. I also have national and state experience in motivational speaking on advocacy and leadership.
I am privileged to work with a diverse client base including professional associations, human service groups, and non-profit and corporate health care organizations. Over time, I have established myself as a trust-worthy, hardworking, and effective advocate with expertise on a range of challenging issues.
I was born and raised in Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1983. After working for three years at Michigan State University – Department of Medicine, I developed a chronic case of divided collegiate loyalties. I also lived in Nevada starting as a VISTA volunteer, followed by positions with the Committee to Aid Abused Women, and the State Attorney General of Nevada – Consumer Advocate of Consumers of Public Utilities. Prior to starting my own firm, I was the Senior Associate Lobbyist at Capitol Services, Inc., a multi-client lobby firm, from 1991 – 2005.
I have received a number of awards including: the 2015 American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science – Board of Directors’ Award; the 2014 Michigan Association of School Nurses Distinguished Service Award; the 2005 Apple Blossom Award – Michigan Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, the 2003 Justice Leadership Award – Families Against Mandatory Minimums, the 2003 Detroit Chapter of the National Organization for Women – Susan B. Anthony Award, and the 2002 Friends of School Nursing Award.
I live in the Lansing area and enjoy reading, art, pinochle, walking Max (my yellow lab), biking (slowly), and live music.
